[CANCELLED] Historic Trees of Newport

April 22, 2020, 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Redwood Library and Athenæum

CANCELLED

In commemoration of Newport Arboretum Week and Earth Day, Nick Castrataro, Collections Curator for the Newport Tree Conservancy and Head of Production for Morningstar Nurseries will present the stories of Newport’s historic trees and demonstrate the grafting and propagation process that is giving them a second life.

Since its founding in 1987 by a group of concerned citizens, the Newport Tree Conservancy has been committed to protecting, promoting, and replanting Newport’s historic urban forest. In 2017 the Newport Tree Conservancy established the Heritage Tree Center at Rogers High School, where our staff are working hand in hand with students to study and propagate some of Newport’s unique, historic, and at-risk heritage trees. Just last year, our organization successfully cloned the Redwood Library and Athenæum’s own historic fernleaf beech alongside eleven other culturally significant Newport heritage trees.

Admission $15. Please click here to purchase tickets.
