Vines and Threads Photography Exhibition Opening

March 15, 2023, 6:00 pm - 7:15 pm

Join us for “Vines and Threads” an exhibition opening and wine tasting aimed at supporting Ukrainian strength and resilience while being inspired by the country’s wine and culture.

VINES – Artwinery, a Bakhmut winery with a centuries-long history and tradition of cultivation and production. The region is currently embroiled in brutal trench warfare while the winery’s millions of bottles of sparkling wine age deep underground in 60 acres of gypsum caves.

THREADS – The dazzling embroidery of the blouses and garments worn by displaced Ukrainian women and girls, who have formed a choir in Germany, are captured by Ukrainian photographer, Ksenia Lisna. The resilience and beauty of her kinswomen are portrayed through the captivating use of composition and natural elements. Here, we are given a privileged view of the life-affirming role that art and music can play in times of war and conflict.

Start the evening viewing Vines and Threads Ksenia Lisna’s haunting and thought-provoking photo exhibition. A sampling from the last bottles of Artwinery’s fine sparkling wines available in the U.S. will be served.

Proceed to the Harrison Room for a presentation by Inna Walker who will give insights into the photography and circumstances surrounding the collection including a brief video. Gayle Corrigan of ArtWinery will present an overview of the vineyard and its current operations.

Guests will then be seated in the Reading Room for a tasting of two sparking varietals as well as a Crimean dessert wine served with pastries and chocolates.

This event is generously co-sponsored by Newport This Week and presented in cooperation with the Ukraine National Women’s League of America.

All proceeds will benefit the Liberty Ukraine Foundation, a 501(c) (3) based in Austin, Texas “fundraising for Ukrainian residents, servicemen and women, first-aid workers, medical facilities, and victims of the war in Ukraine.

We are a team of professionals and cultural workers who came together to help Ukrainians defend their freedom and survive a brutal war Russia started against Ukraine. We have no salaried personnel and rely on an extensive network of volunteers in the U.S. and Europe.

Our main focus is to save lives on the frontlines and help children overcome war trauma. We fundraise for causes that range from purchasing protective gear for rescue workers to physical therapy for wounded civilians, servicemen, and women.” libertyukraine.org
