Stone Enders are an early American architectural style nearly unique to Rhode Island.  Preserve Rhode Island recently rehabilitated the Valentine Whitman Jr. House in Lincoln, the “crown jewel” representing the most developed type of Stone Ender, and wanted to learn more about the architecture and history of this unusual building form.  Come learn what PRI discovered.

Shantia Anderheggen has over thirty-five years of experience in historic preservation, and cultural resource identification and protection, holding staff and leadership positions in local, regional, and national non-profit organizations (Historic New England, National Trust for Historic Preservation, and the Newport Restoration Foundation) well as in local government in Newport, Rhode Island. She has served on numerous boards and commissions focused on historic preservation, cultural resources, architectural history, and local history. Since 2018, Shantia has been consulting as the principal of Preservation Strategies, with an expertise in historic preservation project management as well as the use of preservation and conservation easements to protect historic properties and land. Her clients include statewide non-profits, non-profit historic sites, private property owners, architects, and others. Raised and currently residing in southern Rhode Island, Shantia holds an M.A. in Preservation Studies from Boston University and a B.A. in Art History from the University of Rhode Island.
