During the 250th Anniversary of the United States, learn how Rhode Islanders were thinking about independence in 1776.
Ted Widmer grew up in Rhode Island and has taught or directed research centers at Harvard, Brown, Washington College and the City University of New York. He has also served as a Senior Advisor to President Bill Clinton and to two Secretaries of States (Hillary Clinton and Antony Blinken). His most recent book, from which this talk is adapted, is The Living Declaration: A Biography of America’s Founding Text, published in June 2026 by The Library of America.
