The Claggetts of Newport: Master Clockmakers in Colonial America
Opening December 8, 2018
Coming to the fore during Newport’s ascendency as an Enlightenment city, the Claggett family and their production of fine clocks marked the pinnacle of American technical and artistic know-how. Bringing together the largest number of Claggett clocks from private and institutional lenders ever assembled, the exhibition will allow for an in-depth analysis of period clock design and craftsmanship within the specific historical context of Colonial Newport.
Co-Curators: Gary Sullivan and Benedict Leca
